Seek the Spirit

I am a body worker, and a skincare specialist and everyday I am blessed use my talents and skills to help people feel better, physically and emotionally. I am very fortunate in that I can provide a safe space for people to unwind, relax, and take a few moments to care for themselves.

When I learned this edition of Listen, Share, and Be Kind was centered on the spiritual, I became overwhelmed by so many thoughts on what that means, and how it is connected to the work we do. While trying to create and share positivity, I have seen posts on facebook that truly hurt my heart. It seems social media and the news networks are always feeding fear, doubt, and hate and we are torn and forced into picking sides.

I don’t know if you know this, but we are all the same! We are all bone, blood, muscle, and skin. Yes, we all have a different story, but ultimately we are the same. Every day we are given choices. To be fearful or strong. To be hateful or kind. In saying that, we must take the time to look into ourselves and seek the spirit. A higher power to help us through the muck of the modern day. We have the power and the freedom to seek our own version of spirituality. When our inner-self is at peace, our physical selves can thrive.

This topic is near and dear to my heart, as I struggle with letting the world around me aff ect me in negative ways. Reaching my own spiritual awareness is something I think of daily and remind myself to take moments to just be grateful, even if it’s just to be grateful that I woke up! It’s kind of like flossing your teeth, you have to do it and it takes a little time and eff ort, but the reward is getting to keep your own smile bones all of your life. “When our inner-self is at peace, our physical selves can thrive.”

How do we reach spiritual wellness? It is important for all of us to explore what we believe is our own sense of meaning and purpose.

The path to spiritual wellness may involve meditation, prayer, affirmations, or specifi c spiritual practices that support your connection to a higher power or belief system. Yoga and meditation can also help you develop spiritual wellness. Receiving any kind of body work is a step into self awareness that most of us do not think of as an option. We are trained from early on that it’s the outside that matters, but you connect the inner spirit and the outside physical body, you can truly benefit from being healthy, stable, and aware of your own self. This is a fantastic side eff ect that spreads to those around us who may be struggling. Feeling true compassion, forgiveness, altruism, joy, self fulfillment, and the capacity for love will help you enjoy your spiritual health. Your religious faith, values, beliefs, principles, and morals define
your spirituality.

Ask yourself these simple questions every day:

  • Do I make time for relaxation in my day?
  • Do I make time for exercise in my day?
  • Do I make time to nourish my body?
  • Do I make time for meditation and/or prayer?
  • Do my values guide my decisions and actions?
  • Am I accepting of the views of others?

If you are a person engaged in the process of spiritual wellness, you are willing and able to transcend yourself in order to question the meaning and purpose in your life and the lives of others. In addition, you seek to fi nd harmony between that which lies within and the social and physical forces that come from outside.
