To truly embody an idea or way of being is to allow its influence to alter your daily thoughts and actions so that your life shifts in a profound way. When you choose Wellness as a constant form of growth you start to see obstacles as opportunities. When you strive for Fitness in body, mind and spirit you regularly engage in exercise, meal planning and meditation. When you make the decision to be more involved in your community, it’s almost serendipitous how many organizations, influential people and Humanitarian causes begin to show up as beacons leading the way.
Well Fit Human Retreats are based on these ideas and ways of being as a means to “Create Positive Impact through Personal Growth” both locally and globally. We are a group of movement practitioners and individuals dedicated to making a difference in people’s lives by working on the 3 key elements that follow.
Wellness is the backbone of our mission. So what does wellness really mean? In 1976 Dr. Bill Hettler, co-founder of the National Wellness Institute in the US, developed a model of wellness that included 6 dimensions of health: social, emotional, spiritual, occupational, intellectual and physical. More recently researchers added environmental health to account for the effect our surroundings have on our psychosis. Together these 7 dimensions relate to “the state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal.” An actively pursued goal…therein lies a key phrase.
When actively pursuing a goal we become aware of what it is we truly want and we make choices in support of that goal. For example, say you want to improve your personal relationships. As a response you choose to pay more attention to how you communicate and share quality time. After a month of making this a priority your friendships feel warmer and conversations become affluent. You see the direct correlation of how your goal lead to an awareness, which then lead to a series of choices and ultimately helped you obtain your desired outcome. Excellent, now you’re ready for the next step.
Fitness. Fitness is best defined on a personal level and can be open to interpretation. Some say to be fit is to feel your best physically, emotionally and mentally. Some say it’s to be able to live an abundant life. Regardless of where you believe your current level of fitness is, we provide tools that help you meet your goals.
Our athletic trainers will work with you to improve your physical flexibility, muscular strength, endurance and cardiovascular health. Whereby our guest speakers will focus more on your mental capacity to process life events through journaling, open conversation and meditation techniques. We believe in supporting all aspects of fitness within our daily lives.
Which brings us to the heart of our organization, Humanitarianism. Who is a Humanitarian? Wikipedia states “a Humanitarian is a person or organization that holds an active belief in the value of life and provides assistance to others.” We believe it also means taking care of our environment and focusing on education to enhance lives and alleviate suffering.
During our local Summit County Wellness Days we’ve addressed important topics such as depression, suicide awareness and energy work with specialized guest speakers. We also created care packages for the homeless that were dispersed throughout the state. The awareness talks combined with the volunteer activity helped participants see the ways in which we all suffer and it empowered them to take action.
Ben Okri wrote, “The most authentic thing about us is our capacity to create, to overcome, to endure, to transform, to love and to be greater than our suffering.” YES.
That brings us full circle. Well Fit Human is a community-centered passion project. We choose Wellness, strive for Fitness and make an effort to alleviate suffering through our Humanitarian actions. We do this locally at our Cocktails and Conversations dinners, dance-inspired fundraising events and our popular Wellness Days. We do this globally through our impactful travel retreats which we’d love to invite you to join.
